Texas Senate Bill 5

The 77th Texas Legislature enacted Senate Bill 5, the Texas Emissions Reduction Act, in June 2001.  This new law affects transportation and construction throughout the state.  MPE’s mandate is to assist with the building related measures in SB5:  all new buildings must adhere to energy efficient building codes, and political subdivisions in the most populated 38 counties must set a goal to reduce electrical energy use in existing facilities 5% a year for five years.
